Starting Points for a New Build – April 2020

A Functional and Fun adventure bike

A sneaky peek of the next build above. This is the first draft of Kelly-Ann’s adventure bike. When Kelly-Ann was a child she remembers with fondness two bicycles, a Dawes Kingpin and a Raleigh Wisp.

Combining the memories of both these childhood bikes blasting around the local housing estate with the contemporary function of a back lane wandering adventure bike was the starting point for this wonderful new design. A modern specification such as disc brakes, 1x drivetrain and wound up carbon forks will inspire confidence on trickier road stretches. Typical of MOSS there are traditional trademarks of a classic custom built lugged frame using Reynolds 853 tubing, 1″ head tube and a limited edition Brooks saddle to complete the timeless aesthetic. Kelly-Ann remembers the Raleigh Wisp’s velvet Textured saddle, we probably can’t match this thanks but the Brooks saddle will certainly be special. Schwalbe G-One all round skinwall tyres provide the traction and the high bar position will aide Kelly-Ann revisiting drops after a long time with her recent bikes being flat bar. Two colour purple fade is a must – Purple is Kel’s favourite colour!

So it’s time to start frame building. key dimensional data will be taken from BikeCad to mitre the tubes. In the meantime the lugs will need to cleaned and prepared, angles tweaked before the assembly begins…..to be continued.
